Upper Cervical & the Advanced Orthogonal Technique

Upper Cervical care is a unique chiropractic practice that focuses on the proper alignment of the upper cervical spine, the top two bones of the neck. This gentle technique is in a league of its own when compared to the techniques typically associated with mainstream chiropractic. Upper Cervical focuses on locating and removing interference to the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. Removing this interference allows the body to express its healing capabilities, without the use of potentially harmful drugs or surgery. The Advanced Orthogonal Technique, a classification of Upper Cervical, is a painless and precise treatment that incorporates a table-mounted percussion adjusting instrument. Tailored to each patient, this state-of-the-art procedure minimizes discomfort while maximizing the accuracy of correction. The ultimate goal is to get the spine to hold its own proper alignment, requiring less and less adjusting.

The Process

The Initial Consultation

The causes of spinal misalignment are many and varied. Some are more obvious, while others can be far less visible. These causes may differ, but the results are substantially the same: head/neck misalignment causing interference and preventing the brain from sending health and healing messages to all parts of the body. During the consultation, the doctor searches out the underlying cause of the problem.

Examination

A careful examination is an important first step. After a thorough evaluation of the patient’s health history and symptoms, the doctor begins a series of tests to locate the exact position of the misalignment. In addition to the neurological and orthopedic testing, the Chiropractor uses specific training to detect even the slightest external indication of interference.

Upper Cervical X-Rays

It is very important that certain X-rays be taken. “To see is to know. To not see… is to guess.” Your doctor will never guess about your health. Through extensive X-ray training, our doctors understand exactly which X-rays are vital to the diagnosis and treatment of your condition.

Report of Findings

Patient treatment is decided upon after a thorough evaluation of health history, any orthopedic, neurological Chiropractic examination results, and X-ray studies. At this point, the doctor is able to pinpoint the source of the problem and decide the best healthcare plan.

The Advanced Orthogonal Adjustment

The gentle Advanced Orthogonal adjustment is made after a thorough evaluation of the examination and test results. It is performed while the patient is comfortably positioned on a specially designed adjustable table. The Chiropractor then utilizes the skills and techniques required to correct the misalignment with a gentle yet precise mechanical adjustment.

Post X-rays

By comparing X-Rays taken before and after the adjustment, the doctor is able to verify the success of the treatment or the need for additional adjustment. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor progress throughout the healing process. Once completed, check-ups are recommended for prevention and early detection of future problems.

Spinal Rehabilitation

Your condition may require some support to speed the recovery process. Intersegmental traction is a way of putting motion into the spine for the purpose of improving ligament stability. Most patients find this form of treatment to be helpful and relaxing. The gentle rolling action is restful, exercising the spine without effort. It promotes increased circulation of fluids surrounding spinal joints. Fixation of the spine prevents natural circulation of these fluids and can contribute to disc thinning and degeneration. Intersegmental traction helps to increase and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine. Your doctor will decide if this treatment is appropriate for you.

Patient Education

Patients who understand what causes their pain and suffering and what they can do to assist in their recovery require less time and treatment to do so. The Citrus Regional Clinic of Chiropractic sponsors a Health Restoration Class to our patients as well as a courtesy to the community at large. We care for patients ranging from newborns to seniors and all ages in between. It is never too early to learn the basics of good health and how to restore it, as well as maintain it throughout life. It is significantly easier, more rewarding and less costly than developing serious illnesses that may require complex drug therapy and/or risky surgeries just to relieve symptoms.
